Faculty of Bioethics
The Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum has opened a
Faculty of Bioethics. This Faculty, the first to be created
in the world, offers the possibility of a solid and
profound academic preparation in the difficult field of Bioethics, in
three levels: Bachelor, Master and Doctorate.
The courses will begin
next October 2001, with the first year of every level.
The
Faculty of Bioethics aims:
To form specialists in bioethics, capable of
competently addressing the numerous and difficult ethical problems that continually
crop up in the area of biomedical and biological sciences;
strongly underlining the dignity of the human person and defending
every human individual´s life from conception to natural death.
Intended
for:
All who are interested in themes such as bioethics, health
promotion, and defence of life. Young people, who want to
dedicate themselves professionally to bioethics. Doctors, nurses and other Health
workers. Priests, catechists and those dedicated to pastoral tasks and
committed to the proclamation of the "Gospel of Life".
Lawyers,
philosophers, social communicators. Volunteers or professional people generously dedicated to
the service of those most in need: the poor, women
in difficulty, unborn or abandoned children, sick and handicapped persons,
the elderly …
The reason of this Faculty:

years, has become a genuine academic subject, branching into other
subjects and becoming a genuine profession. Academic degrees which guarantee
adequate expertise are more than ever necessary for those who
intend working in this area.
Application fields:
• Bioethics committees in
clinics, hospitals, and biomedical and biological investigation centers.
• Universities and
High schools.
• Institutions dedicated to bioethics: centers and institutes, associations
and various groups.
• Institutions dedicated to study of marriage and
family.
• Service and Help organizations: Family consulting centres, natural family
planning centers, organizations for women in difficulty, and for carrying
pregnancy to completion.
• Organizations and movements that defend life and
promote "the culture of life."
• Ecclesiastical structures and institutions: commissions
of the national or regional bishops´ conferences, diocesan or parochial
commissions.
• Seminaries, theological faculties, institutes of religious sciences and other
institutions dedicated to the formation of future priests, men and
woman religious, consecrated persons, religion teachers, catechists and other pastoral
agents.
• Persons and groups who are directly active in public
life: Legislators, government health and education ministries, political parties or
movements.
• Encounters for reflection and formation: congresses, debates, conferences, round
table discussions, study seminars….
• Social Communications Media.
Who can register?:
• For
the bachelor´s course, all those persons who hold a certificate
that in their country is valid for university studies.
• For
the master´s course, all who have satisfactorily completed the bachelor
degree in Bioethics or in Theology.
• For the doctorate, all
those who have a master in bioethics degree, or a
master in Theology and an adequate preparation in Bioethics.

Scientific Council: The Faculty counts with the help of a
prestigious international Scientific Council .
* Master in Bioethics:The Faculty
also organizes a "Master in Bioethics" open to students coming
from other faculties or universities.
