Pozuelo de Alarcón (Spain), May 27, 2005. The student body
of Francisco de Vitoria University helped finance the purchase
of a fishing boat for Sri Lanka’s tsunami victims through
a project coordinated by Cooperación Internacional.
As part of the fundraising
campaign, the students organized a charity soccer game and a
day on which they offered various activities and services related
to their future careers in exchange for a token sum
of money.
This project is based in Payagala, a small city
of 25,000 inhabitants that was devastated by the tsunami. The
town relies on fishing as its main source of livelihood.
In this region, charitable efforts are primarily being directed toward
the families so that they can resume their work and
find a way to earn a living.
