At the beginning of May an urgent appeal was
made to raise money to pay for the shipment charges
of medical supplies to the poor and needy in the
Philippines. Thanks to the generosity of so many kind people,
Catholic World Mission was able to meet the goal
of $25,000 and have already shipped the medicines to the
Missionaries of the Poor in Naga City. In this way,
the organization was able to multiply those dollars by 608.77
to one. How?
A company –which seeks no publicity with its
gifts– had donated $15 million in medical supplies but it
was as good as no donation at all since Catholic
World Mission had no money for the shipment. Every dollar
raised for the cause meant that they could send $608.77
in medicines to the Philippines.
In fact, people’s response to the
appeal was so generous that CWM was also able to
send some operating funds for the sisters in the Philippines
to cover some of their travel costs to the poor
areas, feed themselves and also provide additional aid beyond just
the medications.
In response, on July 7th Mother Joan Chin Loy,
the mother superior of the Missionaries of the Poor sent
a very touching email, unable to express her gratitude in
any other way than with her simple words of thanks
and the assurance of the sisters’ prayers for all that
contributed.
She mentioned that a lot of the medicines were already
distributed and were helping to treat the many respiratory problems,
including tuberculosis and were providing the vitamins necessary for the
children to develop normally, remain healthy and free of disease.
In
the name of CWM, Regnum Christi and the Legionaries of Christ would like to thank all those who
made this precious aid possible. The smiling faces of these
poor but grateful people do have a price… The heartfelt
generosity of you, their benefactors.
May God bless each one of
you abundantly.
