Register for 2006 Holy Week Megamissions
Youth for the
Third Millennium (YTM) and Missionary Families for the Third Millennium
(MFTM) are back for the third annual HOLY WEEK MEGAMISSION
´06. This year’s mission cities include Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Washington
DC area, Sacramento, Calgary, Alberta & Quebec City, Quebec. Online
registration begins March 1st. Please visit www.ytm.org for more
details.
In 1996, YTM began sending missionaries to Mexico for
the Annual Holy Week Megamission organized there by Juventud Misionera.
Each year this event grew bigger and bigger and in
2003 over 150 YTM missionaries from the United States attended
the Mexico Megamission. A natural result has been the expansion
of the Holy Week Megamission to this country. In 2004
the first Megamissions USA were held in Atlanta & Sacramento.
In 2005 two more host cities were added: the Washington
DC and Chicago. With this year’s addition of Houston, Calgary
and Quebec City, organizers are ready for their biggest and
best missions ever.
The volunteer missionaries work in teams serving
parishes. They go door to door in neighborhoods assigned by
the local pastor; they ask people if they have have
intentions for which they can pray and invite them to
the special Holy Week services at the parish. Missionaries often
report dramatic encounters with people who have been away from
the faith for a long time and have simply been
waiting to be asked back. Families and individuals alike experience
the spiritual growth that comes from sharing one’s faith with
others. Parishes find an increase in attendance and participation in
liturgies and other parish functions.
YTM helps to build young
people of character anchored in their commitment to ethics, values,
and faith. It provides a platform for young Catholics to
put their faith into action, advancing the culture of life
through works of mercy and visiting souls in need. Since
its founding in 1995, 6000 youth have visited more than
170,000 homes in over 600 parishes in 23 states and
4 countries. It has also had a hand in fostering
at least 50 vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
Increasing request for missions has demanded that YTM begin a
program dedicated specifically to organizing local humanitarian and evangelization missions.
YTM and MFTM are programs of the Regnum Christi Movement:
Love Christ, serve people, build the Church.
