In mid-February members of the Leadership Training Program gathered to
attend the 1st annual Champions of Faith Benefit held at
Chicago´s Soldier Field. Relevant Radio´s own John Morales hosted an
event that awarded of one baseball’s most prominent and religiously
devout players today, Juan Pierre, current LA Dodgers centerfielder and
2003 World Series Champion. Members of the Flossmoor Leadership Training
Program were also privileged to meet future football hall-of-famer Patrick
McCaskey, co-owner of the NFC Champion Chicago Bears, as well
as His Eminence Francis Cardinal George O.M.I, Archbishop of Chicago.
The LTP members who participated in the event were juniors
and seniors from area high schools Marian Catholic High School,
in Chicago Heights, and St. Ignatius College Prep, in Chicago.
This event, filled with inspiration and energy, marked the beginning
of a journey for these young men as they will
embark upon a 6-week mentoring program aimed at Catholic boys
from ages 9-14 that will focus on media and family
virtues. Dennis Cortes, who is entering his 3rd year as
the local LTP coordinator, and Joel Mishork, a volunteer in
the Regnum Christi co-worker program, felt that this would be
a great opportunity for these young men to learn more

about virtue and their faith from some of the most
influential people in the sports world today. The goal of
LTP is for these young men to "practice their leadership
abilities and share them with younger boys by committing to
mentor throughout the course", said Mishork. This benefit was an
edifying experience for the young men and will certainly serve
as a catalyst and inspiration throughout their mentoring program.
