Mari Carmen Perochena, consecrated woman of Regnum Christi

Greenville, USA, June 7, 2007. On Thursday, May 10, 2007, Mari Carmen Perochena, consecrated woman of Regnum Christi, went to the house of the Father after almost two years of being terminally ill.

She passed away in Greenville, USA, where she was a formator and professor in the formation center of the consecrated women of Regnum Christi. In her last moments, she was surrounded by some of her sisters, her mother and many other consecrated women who had taken care of her during her sickness.

Mari Carmen was born on February 10, 1948 in Mexico City, the forth child in a Christian family of twelve children. She completed her studies in the school of the Sacred Heart and then began a career in psychology in the newly inaugurated Anahuac University.

Mari Carmen was the first young woman who was personally invited by our Founder to consecrate her life to Christ within the Regnum Christi movement.

She began this adventure in Dublin, Ireland, where she met the first consecrated women in Regnum Christi. She was consecrated during the Easter Vigil on April 1, 1972. Not much later, she took on the role as director of the center up until February 1982, when she left to direct the Everest school in Madrid. In 1989, she studied in Rome her licentiate in theology, specializing in marriage and family. In 1991, she went to Rhode Island, USA, to act as director and formator in the formation center of the consecrated women.

From 1997 to 2001, she went to Monterrey as professor in the formation center. Afterwards, she went to work in Atlanta from 2001 - 2002, working in the Movement´s pastoral activities. Finally, she returned to Greenville, Rhode Island, as a formation assistant and professor, a work that she committed herself to up until the last months of her life.

Carmen remembers her as a person distinguished for her joy and positive spirit. She knew how to transmit her faith with much simplicity and depth, even in the last months of her illness. She was a woman who lived Christian charity with spiritual and human finesse, always thinking about others.
