Irving, Texas. April 8, 2008. Jose Pecego, a senior forward
from The Highlands School, has received a full scholarship
to play soccer for Valparaiso University, a Division I program
in Indiana. In doing so Pecego becomes the first Highlands
athlete in the school’s twenty two year history to receive
a Division I scholarship for athletics.
First year
athletic director Mark Diaz said, “It is a great accomplishment
for Jose, and a great day for his family and
the Highlands community. This is a sign of things to
come as we continue to build this athletic program around
the kinds of student-athletes we can all be proud of
both on and off the field.”
The Brazilian-born
Pecego is a two year team captain, two time district
MVP, two time 1st Team All-State selection, and plays football,
baseball, track, and tennis for The Highlands while maintaining a
3.9 GPA and receiving a perfect 800 on the math
portion of his SAT.
The Highlands School is a
private Catholic school that implements the method of integral
formation developed by the Legionaries of Christ. For more information
