Pinecrest Academy’s Varsity Academic Team won the 2008 GISA
(Georgia Independent School Association) Annual Academic Bowl Tournament held at
Wesleyan on Saturday, March 29th. The Pinecrest team won the
championship in the "Varsity" category, which included thirteen of the
area’s top schools. The team included Roberto Ocon, Michael Williams,
Rob Herd, and Kate Foster. This is a big accomplishment
and honor for Pinecrest, as this is their first year
competing in the event.
The Academic Bowl is a competition
of questions and answers on all topics of human knowledge
and is commonly played in high school and college. The
game is played with a lockout buzzer system usually with
two teams of four players each. The topics include literature;
history; science and math; social sciences; fine arts; geography; religion,
mythology, and philosophy.
Among the schools that competed were St.
Pius, Blessed Trinity, Lovett, Wesleyan, Westminster, Mt. Paran, Riverside Military
Academy, and Holy Spirit.
Pinecrest Academy is a private
Catholic school that implements the method of integral formation
