On August 26, 1978 countless priests in the Church celebrated
the Mass of the Holy Spirit, praying that God would
grant the Church a saintly Pope. That day, Pope Albino
Luciani was elected and the Legionaries in Rome went to
St. Peter’s Square to receive the urbi et orbi blessing.
The
Pontificate of the Pope Luciani lasted only a month, from
August 26 to September 28, 1978. However it was a
fertile pontificate that gave a shining witness to the existence
of God.
