The Legion took its first steps in the United Kingdom
in 1990, when a few Legionaries from the community in Rome were
invited for a visit by some families. The purpose of
these first visits was to introduce the work and spirituality
of the congregation.
From 1993 to 1995, a Legionary priest and
a religious were invited to help support the ongoing ministry of
the parish of St James at Spanish Place, London.
From 1997 onward, Legionary
priests from the Dublin community took charge of making periodic
visits to Regnum Christi members in the United Kingdom, offering
them spiritual formation and direction, weekend retreats for men and
women, along with half day retreats, marriage renewals, and parenting
conferences.
With this spiritual formation in hand, the Regnum Christi
members in the United Kingdom undertook apostolic work. In the late
1990s, Regnum Christi members launched an apostolate to network with young professionals by offering
a spirit of community, conferences on current themes, etc. In
the early 2000s, they started K4J (Kids for
Jesus) with a network of families interested in forming virtue in their children. K4J began in
a number of parishes with the blessing of the parish
priests.
Several years ago, the Pilgrim Queen of the
Family apostolate came to the United Kingdom, helping families to
draw closer to God by praying the Rosary together.
Since 2007,
Regnum Christi members in Corby and Cambridge assisted with preparations
for a linguistic summer camp for adolescent girls from France,
Spain, and Italy. The particular camp is called “Club Altior”
is one of the many opportunities offered by the Consecrated
Women of the Regnum Christi for teenagers. About 80 young
women attended the summer camp, with more expected in the
coming years.
