Rome, December 11, 2008. And why not become a priest
when the world is their mission field?
A new web
site available in five languages, offers young men motivation and
concrete help for their own vocational discernment. The web site
www.whynotpriest.org is currently live in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian,
French, and German.
A Video and a Helping Hand
In a series
of short, creative video clips, a group of seminarians from
the Legion of Christ say why they decided to
follow Christ through the call to the priesthood. Hailing from
cities as diverse as Paris, Seoul, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid,
and New York, these young seminarians offer a message of
hope and enthusiasm to other youth, echoing the invitation of
Benedict XVI: “Do not be afraid to say yes to
the Lord’s call when he invites you to follow him!”
(Youth Rally, Paris, September 30, 2008).
Not only do they extend
the challenge of inviting others to follow God’s call, but
they also offer concrete help to youth who want to
discern a vocation to the priesthood. The web page www.whynotpriest.org also allows young men the chance to send questions
or concerns to a priest through the contact page, and
to get plugged in to resources that can help them
in their discernment process.
The mission of a priest in these
times is not easy, but the promoters of the initiative
are convinced: “Today is a marvelous time to be a
priest!”
