| Beds are urgently needed by the hospital in Bibiana, Ghana. | |

January 15, 2009. Hamden, CT. Helping Hands Medical Missions
is on the move in Ghana, Africa, with a new
outreach to meet some of the local people’s most urgent
needs. Recently, Helping Hands was able to get 25 new
hospital beds donated to the local hospital in the city
of Bibiani, but there is one complication: the beds are
sitting in a warehouse in the United States, and they
cannot be transported to Ghana without funds.
Few things are
as urgently needed in a hospital as beds. The cots
and beds used up till now in the Bibiani hospital
have been “old, dirty mattresses, or plywood sheets on old
bed frames,” says Atlanta-based Kim Sak, a member of the
local Helping Hands Medical Mission committee for the Medical Missions
to Ghana. She also observed, “If they run out of
hospital beds, they put two people in a bed. If
they run out of room that way, then another person
goes on the floor under the bed.” A visiting engineer
said that it is a sad sight to see children
with malaria lying on the ground.
The new beds have
been donated, but they cannot be shipped without your help
and support. Catholic World Mission is supporting the mission by
raising funds for the transport, which is scheduled to take
place on February 13— if enough funds have been raised.
These new beds will also be an important part of
the next Helping Hands medical mission in Bibiani, which is
scheduled for April.
You can help move those mattresses with a
donation through Catholic World Mission. Even a small amount
can make a big difference in the lives of people
who have so little. If you are willing and able
to help cover the cost of transporting the beds to
the people in Ghana, please contact Amber DeMartino at 800-961-8153 or send an e-mail
to amber.demartino@catholicworldmission.org.
