December 14, 2009.  Facing the problem of poverty and underdevelopment in third world countries is like tackling a Goliath of unimaginable proportions. The needs are so vast and in some cases so extreme that no one program could possibly cover them all. Intelligent strategies and teamwork between institutions are essential even to make a dent.

The Altius Foundation, which coordinates the Legion’s service to the poor, takes a multi-pronged approach to breaking the cycle of poverty, with educational, health, and development programs that help people to gain the skills and capacities they need to build a better future.

At the same time, Altius teams up with other international aid associations, sharing tools, resources, and funds to make a stronger impact together.

Take a deeper look

Click here to watch an informational video on the nature and scope of Altius’ mission, which employs 1,600 people in 13 countries.

Find out about 31 Mano Amiga schools for underprivileged children – with 90% of the graduates continuing on to a university education; health clinics that offer over 65,000 consultations to needy people in Latin American countries; and 6 centers for immigrant services in Spain and Latin America.

As the video says, “Everything starts with a dream, an opportunity, a life changed.”

This is charity that changes lives, love made into deeds.
