Madrid, September 15, 2010. Starting this October, Francisco de
Vitoria University, a Legion-run university in Madrid, will offer a music
degree in all specializations: piano, accordion, guitar, strings (violin, viola,
cello, contrabass), woodwinds (flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon), and brass
(trumpet, trombone, horn, and tuba), percussion, and voice.
Francisco de Vitoria
is now the first university in Spain to offer an
official degree in these subjects; previously, a degree in music
could only be obtained from the Official Conservatory of Music.
From
its very beginnings, the university had a polyphonic choir and
offered voice classes for students and university personnel. Now, with
its new course offerings, Francisco de Vitoria is aiming to
situate itself as a reference point for higher musical education
in Spain and throughout Europe.
