Benedicto XVI con Mons. Velasio
Pope Benedict XVI with Archbishop Velasio De Paolis, CS.

Rome, October 20, 2010. This morning, after the general audience in St. Peter’s Square, the Holy Father announced the celebration of a public consistory for the creation of 24 new cardinals. The consistory will take place on November 20, 2010.

One of the new cardinals will be Archbishop Velasio De Paolis, CS, President of the Prefecture for Economic Affairs of the Holy See. Since July, he has also been serving as the pontifical delegate for the congregation of the Legionaries of Christ and the Regnum Christi Movement.

The fact that Archbishop De Paolis will be elevated to the College of Cardinals underlines his important responsibility as President of the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See and the extraordinary service he has given to the Church throughout his life. The Legionaries and Movement members welcome the news with joy and assure the future cardinal of our constant prayers for all of his intentions.
