The Legionaries of Christ and consecrated members of Regnum Christi are deeply committed to the protection of children and young people in all their programs. The Legion abides by the document “Code of Conduct And Other Directives Pertaining to Safe Environment Issues in North America for the Legionaries of Christ and Consecrated Men of Regnum Christi.” This document, based on the Dallas Charter, sets forth clear guidelines for general conduct in ministry with minors. It also discusses boundary violations; reporting obligations; confidentiality, confession, spiritual direction, and mentoring; and what to do when there is an allegation of abuse. If we should happen to receive an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor, we pledge to respond in a pastoral and caring way and carry out an investigation in a timely manner. The “Guide for Those Who Have Brought Forward an Abuse Allegation” outlines the steps that will taken when these cases are brought to our attention in the North American territories. Finally, if anyone is aware of a Legionary or consecrated member of Regnum Christi having committed the sexual abuse of a minor, we strongly urge them to report it to the police or child protective services and to inform us as soon as possible. Child protection is of paramount importance for our religious community. We take to heart the Lord’s admonition, “Let the children come to me” (Luke 18:15).
