| Regnum Christi members with prisoners, building a chapel together. | |
 |
Mexico, February 9, 2011. For the past few months, Regnum
Christi members have been working in three prisons in the
northern, southern, and eastern parts of Mexico City with the
goal of bringing the Gospel to an oft-forgotten sector of
the population.
In addition to promoting Christian and human values, the
missionaries have pushed for the construction of chapels in each
of the prisons. The project involved the inmates themselves, who
did the construction work, while Movement members from the adult
and youth sections fundraised for the chapels.
Some of the
prisoners expressed their gratitude and requested prayers and the sacraments.
Future visits will thus include the participation of Legionary priests
to hear confessions and celebrate Masses.
By offering spiritual care to
the inmates, the missionaries are also offering a service to
the diocese by caring for members of its parishes.
