April 5, 2011. In an effort to promote the sacrament
of confession throughout New York City, two archdioceses teamed up
to create a grassroots digital campaign in the form of
a video contest (see www.i-confess.com). Two youths, Molly and
Caleb Herboth, recently entered the contest with a one-minute
video promoting the sacrament of confession, featuring a quote from
St. Isidore: “Confession heals. In Confession, there is mercy. Do
not doubt. Believe it firmly. Do not hesitate. Never despair
of the mercy of God. Hope and have confidence in
Confession.”
“I wanted to enter the contest to spread the mercy
of God to the whole world,” said Caleb, who is
currently a freshman at Immaculate Conception Apostolic School in Colfax,
California. “I’m hoping the videos will inspire people to go
to confession so they can go to heaven at the
end of their life.”
The first-place prize is worth $25,000 toward
an educational scholarship. A Catholic school or parish of the
winner’s choice will also receive a matching prize of $25,000.
The second place prize is worth $10,000 with a matching
prize of $10,000 for a Catholic school or parish, and
there are several third prizes worth $1000.
Since Caleb is
a student at Immaculate Conception, he decided that if their
video wins, the matching prize will go to his school.
The winning video will be chosen based on which one
has the most hits and likes (or thumbs up) on
YouTube.
“The grants and scholarships will support our school,” he
said. “We want to build a chapel and that might
help.”
Caleb’s video is posted on the i-Confess YouTube channel at

forget to give it a thumbs up!
