The new web site gives visitors a quick and easy way to stay up-to-date with the section.

November 11, 2011. Chicago, IL. As of this past September, the Chicago Regnum Christi section now has its own local web site, thanks to some effective teamwork between the Legionary community, consecrated women, and lay Regnum Christi members in the area.

The new web site, created by lay professionals under the leadership of Fr Patrick Murphy, LC, and with the day-to-day site management of Katelyn Moroney, is a practical way to bring together a far-flung section, building a sense of local unity.

“We’re spread out over a huge city,” said Katelyn, noting that the section has so many activities going on, but people are often unaware of what everyone up to. “We just needed a place where everyone could be involved and know everything that’s going on. It’s amazing when you put it all together how much good is happening in so many places in so many different ways,” she said.

The site already has some user-friendly features that give it a personal look and feel, starting with the home page’s rotating display of recent news about local events, an integrated calendar with a category filter and online registration to activities, an “about us” section with each member of the Legionary community and consecrated team profiled, and a linked listing of the apostolates that the Legionaries and consecrated members run in the Chicago area. A resources tab features blogs by Legionaries and consecrated members, plus “Lunch Alerts,” which are reflections accompanied by videos.

One of the most innovative features of the site is the “E-Novena Cards” initiative, started by Fr Patrick Murphy. The e-novenas offer visitors the chance to enroll their loved ones in a Novena of Masses. Deacon Michael Mitchell, who will be ordained in Rome this upcoming December 12, has offered to celebrate his first nine Masses for the novena intentions. Those who would like a novena are also invited to send a stipend to the Legionary community, if they wish.

“Every day, we try to do something to make the web site better and to give it more elements,” said Katelyn. “There are some really exciting things we’re hoping to add to keep it really interactive.”
