Eight teams competed in the tournament.

Clarkston, Michigan -- In the crisp fall weather of early November, teens and young men celebrated the upcoming feast of Christ the King (Nov. 20, 2011) with a rousing flag football tournament.

Held at on the campus of Everest Collegiate High School and Academy in Clarkston, Michigan, the event drew about 60 players, enough for 8 teams.  Competitors came from throughout the Midwest region, including Ohio and Indiana, as well as teams from Michigan.

Each team wore a jersey chosen by the team members. 

“For example, the Cleveland, Ohio team wore Brown’s jerseys, and the team from Inkster, Michigan work jersey’s from the St. Louis Cardinals,” said Fr. Daniel Weber, LC, who helped organize the tournament.

Fr. Daniel said the event began with prayer and the national anthem before the competition commenced on the Everest football field.  The teams prayed the rosary during their lunch break, followed by the playoffs to determine the top three teams.

A team of teachers from Everest Academy took the gold medal.  The silver medal went to a team of high school students from Everest Collegiate.  The bronze award went to the team from Fort Wayne, Indiana.

After the competition, teams participated in the celebration of the Mass and afterwards, enjoyed pizza and a presentation on God’s love.

“We thank all the people who helped to organize and run the activities,” said Fr. Daniel.  He said the players are already looking forward to next year’s competition, and he encouraged the teams to “come back and bring a friend!”
