Cheshire, CT
- On Saturday, September 1st, Fr. Luis Garza, LC, Territorial
Director of the Legionaries of Christ in North America, presided
over the Mass of Religious Professions at St. Bridget’s Parish,
located a few blocks away from the Novitiate and College
of Humanities in Cheshire. On this occasion, 7 novices made
their initial vows of poverty, chastity and obedience for a
period of three years. At the same time, 12 brothers
renewed their vows, and 5 brothers made their perpetual profession.
The ceremony
was concelebrated with many Legionary priests from different centers of
formation and communities of apostolate in North America. The families
of all the newly professed brothers attended the ceremony, along
with the brothers studying humanities in Cheshire, the brothers on
internship, and the candidates, who will receive their cassock on
the 14th of September.
In his homily, Fr. Luis Garza, addressing the
brothers who were going to
profess said that “we should
admire the work of God in these brothers, admire the
resolution and determination they make to consider everything as a
loss to gain Christ”
He also mentioned an insight gained from
visiting medieval cites in Europe: “You can see the towers
and walls built on a strong foundation from kingdoms long
ago. Now imagine that in this life we build in
heaven that kingdom on a strong foundation, we will belong
to heaven. Today, these brothers making their religious profession are
from heaven, they are a sign of eternal life, of
something more beautiful, something which transcends.”
After Mass, the brothers and their
families returned to the Novitiate where they enjoyed the rest
of the day together.
