Fr. Alvaro Corcuera´s address to the legionaries in Rome on October 11, 2012
Fr. Alvaro Corcuera, LC,
and Cardinal Velasio De Paolis both stated in letters
that the current General Director of the Legion of
Christ and Regnum Christi has requested a sabbatical to bolster his
health and energy. The Cardinal, who had been concerned
about Fr. Alvaro’s health and had recommended a rest
period, granted his request to be temporarily relieved of
the faculties of the General Director. From October 15 until
the convocation of the General Chapter, which will take place
at the end of 2013 or the beginning of
2014, the current Vicar General, Fr. Sylvester Heereman, LC,
will assume the functions of this position, though Fr. Alvaro
will remain General Director of the Congregation.
After the
inaugural mass of the Year of the Faith, the
legionary communities in Rome got together for lunch at the
Center of Higher Studies. Fr. Alvaro Corcuera offered some
words where he commented about this recent decision to
request a sabbatical to the Papal Delegate. Fr. Sylvester
Heereman, LC also addressed Fr. Alvaro thanking him for his
continued service as General Director. The following video summarizes
this event.
