Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went
up the mountain to pray. While he was praying his
face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with him,
Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of
his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem.
Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but
becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two
men standing with him. As they were about to part
from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good
that we are here; let us make three tents, one
for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came
and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened
when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came
a voice that said, “This is my chosen Son; listen
to him.” After the voice had spoken, Jesus
was found alone. They fell silent and did
not at that time tell anyone what they had seen.

Cancun, Mexico -- Midway through
the 2013 Lenten Journey, our Church reads the gospel passage
of the Transfiguration of Jesus on the mountaintop, just prior
to the completion of His mission leading to the cross
on Calvary.
Meditating on the
message of this passage helps illuminate the approach of a
unique ministry called His Way at Work.
“We are called to be Christ’s ambassadors in the mission
fields of our workplaces, homes and cities,” said ministry leader
Scott Gajewsky.

Summit 2013, where 314 business leaders and their family members
recently “climbed to summit” of their own “mountain tops.”
“The true measure of our success will
be reflected in our actions after coming down from the
mountain and returning to the valley of daily life,” said
Scott.
The more than 300 participants who attended
the event, held from January 17 through 19, 2013, at
the Gran Caribe Resort in Cancun, Mexico, including business owners
and CEOs – 81 of whom attended with their spouses. Among the group were also 21 priests and
several representatives from workplace ministry. Countries represented, besides
Mexico, included the United States, the Philippines, Costa Rica, Argentina,
Columbia, Spain, Chile, Guyana, and South Africa.
Scott
said the event fostered “greater Christian unity between the many
Christian denominations present.”
“Relationships were made, marriages
renewed and enriched, and bridges built between countries, denominations and
organizations,” said Scott.
Why did so many businessmen
and women take time for their jobs to attend? In a survey of those who participated, 88% responded
they were very satisfied with the Summit. Scott
points to the words in the His Way at Work
event brochure:
“The overwhelming majority of us
work at a frantic pace, seldom resting and continually demanding
more of ourselves and of those who work for us.
In this race to compete, either among our peers or
in a global environment, we may be sacrificing our lives,
our families, and our spiritual health…”
The brochure
quotes several passages of Scripture (see below) and asks, “How
can we complete our work” and live these words?
-Have no anxiety about anything, but in
everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests
be known to God. (Philippians 4:6)
-Do not
conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but
be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you
will be able to test and approve what God´s will
is - his good, pleasing, and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)
-Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with
all your heart and with all your soul and with
all your mind. This the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor
as yourself.”(Matthew 22:37-39)
Through participation in prayer and
worship activities, including the Catholic Mass, and listening to motivational
business and spiritual speakers, Scott explains that His Way at
Work events aim to bring business leaders into a relationship
with Jesus Christ – a relationship which will in turn
be shared with that employer’s employees.
Some of
those speakers at the January event included Fr. Luis Garza
LC, and business leaders such as: Roberto Servitje Sendra, Chairman
of the Board of Grupo Bimbo, the world’s largest baking
company; Bob Pettus, retired chairman of Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated,
the largest independent US bottler of Coca-Cola; Alfonso Gonzalez, Chairman
and Founder, Qualfon Corp. ; Peter Freissle, President of Polydeck
Corp., which provides goods and services to the mining industry
worldwide; Fernando Garcia Zalvidea, President of BestDay.com and Real Resorts;
and Pablo Jose Barroso, producer of the movie For
Greater Glory.
According to Scott, there is the
potential from the January event to affect more than 1
million souls through God’s grace, considering the number of people
employed by the men and women who came to the
2013 Workplace Summit.
One interesting part of the
event was an offsite trip to the City of
Joy community, a partnership of charities serving the poor and
needy in the Cancun area. According to Scott,
the City of Joy “transforms the lives of more than
7,300 people each year, making it a true oasis of
love, hope, peace, and joy.”
Some of those
who attended were moved to action immediately following the close
of the Summit. Within minutes of the last
presentation, a group of participants launched a plan to integrate
faith and Christian principles in their management practice, said Scott. Nineteen key business, education, ministry and spiritual leaders
came together for a short meeting right after the last
session on Saturday afternoon to discuss their plans. The group
met again this past week on Feb. 27 and 28,
2013.
