RC men from Midwest gather to share faith and ideas

Eucharistic Adoration for Men

Rolling Prairie, Indiana – Men from throughout the Midwest gathered at Sacred Heart Apostolic School (SHAS) in Rolling Prairie, Indiana at the beginning of March, 2013, for their area’s first RC Men’s Regional Convention.

Fifteen men from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, and Kansas addressed the theme “Fighting the Cultural Battle.” Through guided meditations and four presentations on the conference theme, the men considered how to “fight to save the culture as Catholic men.”

Presenters and presentations included Peter Colarelli discussing “Virtues of a Catholic Man,” “Authentic Manhood” from Fr. Daren Weisbrod LC, “Strategic Plan for the Soul” from Fr. Patrick Murphy LC, and Fr. Thomas Salazar LC discussed “God Always Wins: Do not Lose Hope in the Fight.”

Directed meditations were presented by Fr. John Curran, LC and Fr. Kevin Baldwin, LC.

The group celebrated daily Mass and had Eucharistic adoration, as well as regular prayer time.  On the final day, the men exchanged ideas in a roundtable discussion on how to be better apostles for the RC movement when they returned home.

“We have hosted spiritual exercises at SHAS before, but this was the first RC men’s convention held there,” said Fr. Thomas. He said the SHAS community did “a great job” hosting the event. “Some men had never been to SHAS and were impressed with the facilities and the great spirit of service of the boys and Legionaries there.”

He also said the men enjoyed having their own regional convention, where travel and expenses were easier to manage.

“The group was small, but the atmosphere was great,” he said. “The theme was one they could relate to well as RC members working to extend Christ’s Kingdom in their local communities. They all realized they are in the same fight together and it was reassuring to be with other men who share the same ideals and values, as well as having the Legionary priests around giving evidence that they are not alone in their fight.”

The men left the conference “renewed in spirit to share what they had learned in their localities.”

“Many are already looking forward to next year’s convention, which will also be held at SHAS in the fall of 2013,” said Fr. Thomas.
