Enkindling a Missionary Spirit
Good Girl Comeback group plans missionary trip to help orphans in Haiti

What good is it…if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (James 2:14-17)

Chelsea Gheesling wasn’t satisfied with just founding a successful ministry called Good Girl Comeback (GGCB) that has, as its website says, “inspired girls to find their true fulfillment.” She wanted to take her “movement” one step further, and enkindle a missionary spirit in the young women.  So from August 2-9, 2013, Chelsea and a group of women involved in GGCB are taking a mission trip to Port au Prince, Haiti.

“We will be working with the Missionaries of Charity , the order that Blessed Mother Teresa founded,” she said.  “We will serve in their orphanage and school helping with the children.”

Prior to founding GGCB, Chelsea herself has been on six different mission trips.  She called those experiences “life changing and humbling.”  In her younger years, as part of Challenge and Mission Youth, she went on two mission trips to Mexico, and before attending college, she served as an RC Mission Corps volunteer in Washington DC between 2002 and 2003.

In November of 2011, Chelsea founded the GGCB initiative

and since then, more than 550 girls have gone through her program, which includes a series of full-day conferences for middle school and high school girls. GGCB events help girls build their confidence, leadership skills, self-respect, modesty and virtue, and enhance their spiritual development. The GGCB conferences are consistently hosted in Orchard Lake, Michigan but the program can be brought to any organization willing to host.

“I have no doubt that our trip to Haiti will challenge us to live in a spirit of giving and putting others needs before our own. It also gives the girls the opportunity to live out the topics and virtues we talk about at the GGCB,” said Chelsea.

The GGCB missionary group is accepting donations for the Haitian orphanage.  If you would like to help, needs include:

  • Cloth Diapers
  • Hospital baby gowns (No onesies, simple gowns with back buttons or ties)
  • Crib toys (the ones that attach to the crib and hang)
  • Baby wipes
  • Washcloths
  • Baby powder
  • Baby formula
  • Gauze and surgical tape
  • Antibacterial creams
  • Baby bottles
  • Anti-fungal creams
  • Soccer balls and air pumps
  • Shoes and sandals/jellies (ages 2-8)

Those who live in the West Bloomfield, Michigan area can contact Chelsea at for a pickup.  For those who live out of the area, items can be shipped to Chelsea Gheesling at P.O. Box 267, Union Lake, MI 48387.  Monetary donations are also being accepted toward purchasing supplies and to cover the cost of shipping those supplies.  To donate, click here.

“We thank you in advance for your participation and support,” said Chelsea. “Please keep us in your prayers!”
