Sacred Heart Apostolic School hosts Camp Cristero Catholic boys summer camp

“The idea was to help them to grow in love for the Eucharist and appreciate more their freedom of religion,” said Fr. Aaron Smith LC, about the recent Camp Cristero Catholic boys camp hosted by Sacred Heart Apostolic School in Rolling Prairie, Indiana.

Twenty kids attended the June 9th through 16th, 2013 camp, as well as eight counselors, including five members of the ECYD mission corps.

“Camp Cristero was a fantastic camp, and the counselors did an excellent job,” said Fr. Aaron, who offered spiritual support. “The staff at the school was very kind to host us there.”

Similar to the theme of the movie For Great Glory, the camp theme involved the premise that the “federales” had closed all the Catholic churches in the area.

“Through many different activities, the kids attempted to re-open the churches,” said Fr. Aaron.

Campers also celebrated Mass “underground” in the school’s crypt church. The week ended with a Eucharistic Procession, a symbolic “opening” of the churches, as well as a Father’s Day Mass with
