A group of Regnum Christi radio pioneers celebrated a milestone for their Catholic program broadcasting in New Zealand. On June 22, 2013, Light of the World Radio in Dunedin, New Zealand, celebrated its 10th anniversary on Otago Access Radio.

“We celebrated the anniversary with a high afternoon tea which included an amazing cake and a card signed by a number of listeners and well-wishers,” said program director Teresa Cleary. “It was a warm and celebratory afternoon on a wild, wintry Dunedin day.

“We hope that Dunedin is a richer place for the 10 years of our weekly broadcasting on OAR 10524FM and 1575 kHz.”

Teresa explained that Otago Access Radio allows community groups and individuals to buy radio time and to present their own programs. Since Light of the World Radio began its decade of broadcasting, the program has been recognized with two awards from the Otago station so far.

“Many thanks to their staff, who have always been available to assist us with technical issues, suggestions on how to prepare a program, interviewing tips and more,” said Teresa.
“The judges’ comments have always been encouraging and helpful.”

Teresa said her team began broadcasting with the help and support of the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).

“At that time the EWTN satellite coverage did not extend over our part of the world,” she said.

In 2002, with the backing of the local Regnum Christi team, Teresa and her group approached EWTN with the proposal to rebroadcast some of the network’s programs,

as well as some of their own local content.  The local bishop, Len Boyle, gave them permission to begin broadcasting, and they also got permission to use items from Vatican Radio, as well as Ave Maria Radio’s "Kresta in the Afternoon," and other sources such as the New Zealand Christchurch Diocese’s "Sounds Catholic," and the Discerning Hearts ministry.

Congratulations Light of the World!  Keep up the great work!
