Stories of the Passion, Maestro di Fossa, Vatican Museums, Circa 1340

Fr Mark Haydu LC’s first book will soon be published in the US by Liguori Publications. Meditations on Vatican Art beautifully blends two themes -- the art of the Vatican Museums and the beauty of the spiritual life.

The exquisite images in this hardbound volume feature art from such masters as Michelangelo, Raphael, Cortona, Cano, Poussin, Caravaggio, Pinturicchio and many others.

reflection on the Scripture and the art, questions to ponder and a spiritual exercise. Background on the artist and the context will help the reader contemplate the image more deeply.

The book was born from his desire to evangelize through the Vatican Arts, which he helps preserve through his work as the Director of the Patrons of the Arts.

“As a Legionary priest, my first desire is to preach the gospel wherever I am,” said Fr. Mark. “Souls are in such need of the love of Christ that I couldn’t not try to bring that love through the ministry I have been entrusted.

“My hope is that Meditations on Vatican Art will enable readers to experience masterpieces from the Vatican while meditating upon them, for it was the artist’s intention that these sacred art pieces inspire the faithful to pray,” said Fr. Mark. He added the book is suitable for use with retreats, bible study or prayer groups.

“You can use it for your own personal prayer or simply relish the beauty of the art within it,” he said. “It is meant to help the proficient in prayer as well as the novice. The beauty should also speak to others who may not
