Helping the Victims of Typhoon Haiyan
Catholic World Mission, Regnum Christi and Legionary members in the Philippines organizing relief efforts

Typhoon in Philipinnes

“We are doing fine. The typhoon did not hit Manila.”

These words are definitely comforting to hear from Regnum Christ consecrated woman Betty Rivera, stationed in Manila in the Philippines.

She said the Legionary and Regnum Christi communities and the Everest Academy Manila school are now working to organize relief efforts for the hundreds of thousands affected by Typhoon Haiyan. (She posted this video on Facebook from one of the Everest Manila students.)

One of the worst storms in recorded history, the typhoon (also called Yolanda) hit the Philippines Friday, affecting more than 4 million people in 270 towns and cities.  The death toll is expected to exceed 10,000.  Countless more have been displaced from their homes.

Catholic World Mission (CWA) is also mobilizing to help.  The organization has set up a fund to aid the victims, available at the following links:

Catholic World Mission is affiliated with the Mano Amiga Catholic school in the Philippines, which offers support for impoverished families.  Mano Amiga is joining with Global Shapers, an international non-profit organization with a chapter in the Philippines, to aid the typhoon victims.  The organizations will hand distribute water and medicines to Filipinos in need.  All funds collected though Catholic World Mission will be distributed to Mano Amiga for this collaborative project, and questions may be directed to or by calling 1-800-961-8153.

Funds can also be wired to Mano Amiga directly via the bank in the Philippines using the following information:
