The consecrated women of Regnum Christi invite you to follow their General Assembly

Consecrated Women Logo

After more than four decades since the birth of the Regnum Christi consecrated life for women in 1969, the moment has arrived.

The first General Assembly, involving the approval of the text of the Statutes and election of the general government for the next six years, begins on December 2 and is projected to conclude on December 15, 2013.

"These forty-four years of existence have been a journey," said Mary Patt Pirie, one of the consecrated participants and a member of the general council. "There have been lights and shadows, upsets and surprises, but in faith we see the Lord ever-present with His guiding hand, accompanying, protecting and purifying us, and now encouraging this vocation within the Regnum Christi movement and the Church.”

For those who want to stay informed about the General Assembly, the RC communications office has prepared a website which will be launched on the opening day of the assembly. (Special thanks to Juan Carlos Arceo and Xavier Velasco for their valuable collaboration to make this possible.)

The website will allow those interested to follow the assembly day by day and learn about the participants. It will include a section with press releases, documents on consecrated life and a special segment called “Join us in prayer” for those who, together with the consecrated women, want to invoke the Holy Spirit so He will illuminate the development of the Assembly.

A Little History

The process of renewal began with a mandate from Pope Benedict XVI, who entrusted Cardinal Velasio De Paolis C.S. with the task of governing the Legion of Christ and the Regnum Christi Movement in his name (appointment letter). By appointment and under the direction of the Papal Delegate Cardinal De Paolis, His Excellency Don Ricardo Blazquez made an apostolic visitation to the consecrated branches of Regnum Christi, followed by an “illuminative phase” devoted to study, courses, assimilation and deepening of the teachings of the Church regarding the vocation of lay consecrated members.

Afterwards, the Papal Delegate instituted the Commission for the revision of the Statutes of the consecrated members of Regnum Christi. This commission was responsible for preparing material for study, which served as a basis for reflection for all the consecrated members in their communities on the draft Statutes, and to gather the contributions sent for review. A second draft was then sketched for the territorial assembly and which will be the study material for the General Assembly, which will approve the text that will ultimately be given to the Holy See for its approval.
