Atlanta Pilgrimage to Rome
Group of RC pilgrims report on their experience during canonizations

RC Atlanta pilgrims to Rome

Following is a group testimony on the April 25 to May 1, 2014, pilgrimage of an Atlanta, Georgia, group visiting Rome for the recent canonizations. The pilgrimage was organized by Sofia Solis, consecrated woman of Regnum Christi.

“We declare and define Blessed John XXIII and John Paul II to be Saints, and we enroll them among the Saints, decreeing that they are to be venerated as such by the whole Church! ...”

These were the words from the formula of Canonization proclaimed by Pope Francis in Latin on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 27, 2014, as the crowd of pilgrims from all over the world cheered and waved their flags.

At Via de la Conciliazione, our group celebrated in joy, unity, mercy, faith and

love by singing joyfully the Easter “Alleluia” at the enrollment of these new saints for the Church.

“Be a witness to sainthood” was the continued theme of our beautiful Pilgrimage, which included 22 pilgrims, members and friends of Regnum Christi from different cities of the U.S., including Atlanta, Greensboro, Philadelphia and Chicago, who gathered in Rome to be witnesses of this historic event.

The pilgrimage included visits to cities that have given the Church great saints – Assisi, the home of St. Francis, and San Giovanni Rotondo and Pietrelcina, towns where Padre Pío lived and was born.  In Rome we visited important places marking the history of our faith -- the three main Basilicas, the Catacombs, the Vatican Museums, and other significant Roman sites.  The tour concluded with Pope Francis’s public audience on

We thank God and all those who made this pilgrimage possible: our group leader Sofia Solís, chaplain Fr. Devin Roza LC for his sense of humor, kindness and spiritual accompaniment, and all the pilgrims for their family spirit and openness of heart.  We also thank New Gate Tours for all the help in organizing this trip.

Here are a few personal testimonies from those who participated in the pilgrimage:

"Hard to find words to share with family and friends, the abundance of grace and magnificent beauty! Thank you for setting this up for all! I was trying my best to hold back the tears this AM while sharing stories of ´my pilgrim family.´"  Liz Wilson, Atlanta, Georgia

"I want to thank you for all the effort and hard work that went into planning and executing our pilgrimage.  As I told Fr. Devin, this was not just a trip to a foreign land, but it became a journey within myself.  I feel so very blessed that I was able to experience this with you and Father.  Beth and I will treasure all the memories and build on the spiritual aspects of the trip from here on out." Rob Griffin, Greensboro, North Carolina

"It was great to meet everyone on the trip, and see how grace was working so strongly in everyone, me included." Fr. Devin Roza, LC, Rome, Italy

"I believe that I have been on about 12 pilgrimages during my time,

and this has certainly been the very best with Regnum Christi.  God Bless you." Rose Marie Knight, Chicago, Illinois

"I am still in amazement that we were there. It seems like a far off dream.  When people ask me ´how was it?´, I just have no words that can describe the feelings it invokes.   All I can say is ´amazing.´" Katherine Manzella, North Carolina
