Online Condolence Book for Fr. Alvaro

In memory of Fr. Alvaro Corcuera, LC whose earthy pilgrimage ended this week, the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi are offering a special book of condolences online.  The site “is offered as a space to strengthen communion, to share and to accompany people with words, with experience.  It’s an opportunity to continue to build the Kingdom of Christ.”

All are encouraged to visit the site at http://legionariesofchrist.org/inmemoryofFrAlvaro/ and leave prayers, good wishes and thoughts on the life of our late General Director.

Following is a sampling of some of the entries so far:

Roxye and Joe Cieply
Saddened that his earthly life has ended, but thankful to have known this amazing priest, Fr Alvaro Corcuera LC, and to have had the privilege of being in his presence. He was truly a blessing to us and his life a testimony of virtue, holiness, and faith! Fr Alvaro, please continue to pray for us and for all your spiritual family here on earth!

Anne Will
Fr. Alvaro, I’ll never forget how you taught me the meaning of Our Lord’s Ascension: that He has gone before us so that we will keep our eyes fixed on heaven, interceded that we may do so, and thus live our lives to the full here on earth.

Renae Schoening
Thank you for your leadership, your beautiful charity, and your reflection of the Father’s eyes. Rest in peace!

Andrés Gutiérrez
Lovely Lord: Thank You for teaching me what (the) meek and humbleness of Christ’s Heart means, shown throughout the life of Fr. Álvaro Corcuera L.C.

Claude
I’ve never met a more humble and gentle man. Although I didn’t know him as well as most, the short encounters will stay with me forever. You are in our hearts and prayers Father Alvaro.

Debra Birchard
Rest in peace beloved Fr. Alvaro. You fought the good fight and finished the race….you always made me feel so special. You treated me with such love and compassion. May Our Lord now embrace you and fill you with His joy and peace.

Dorit Wilke--Lopez
God, thank you for creating Fr. Alvaro, thank you for being our and his father. Please take him now into your Holy Trinity and the communion of all the Saints already there in your presence. Let him see your beauty and splendor and feel your immeasurable love.

Sarah
May Fr. Alvaro rest in peace. I was just incorporated into RC on April 20…I never had the privilege to meet him…but I believe he was a truly good man. To think that he shouldered such responsibility while himself battling the tumors and bad health is inspiring to me. He has been such a blessing to the Legion and Regnum Christi during these troubling times. He had much love for the Legion and Regnum Christi. Thank you Father, for the gift of your life to the service of many. Truly Christlike.

Ashley Strobel
I had the great honor of personally meeting Fr. Alvaro in 2005 at the International Girl’s Convention in San Jose, CA. He tried to meet every girl and wanted to give each one of us an individual blessing. He patiently and joyfully took pictures with us and signed our Ancora Cards. I will always remember the love in his eyes for each one of us and how happy he was that we had gathered together. His great Spirit and his immense joy at being with us was something that I carried in my heart since. He had a huge impact on my life and I will never forget him. May God Bless him for all he did. May the Angels lead him into Paradise!

Karen (Chicago section)
Fr. Alvaro was Christ to me! He wrote me a letter of encouragement and stopped and talked to me and my daughters in Rome as if we were the only people around. He had such a genuine love for others! His joy was palpable! Heavenly Father, thank you for this good and faithful servant! It was so easy to see You in him. I pray for his soul and for all the Legionaries! Blessed be God forever!

Fr. Aaron Smith LC
My heartfelt gratitude to Fr. Alvaro for his example of self giving. He suffered, he sacrificed, he spent himself to the last drop but above all he LOVED. May he now receive his eternal reward. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Juan M Ruiz
From those who met you one day while roaming in LA, and you approached us because the t-shirt my son Marcos was wearing was of the LC missions; Your brother had recently been elected as director… Since my son Nicolas is currently a brother with the Legion and he is discerning, we pray to Fr. Corcuera and you his sister to bring his cause to Our Lord. Peace be with you.

John (Jack) Keogh
Fr. Alvaro was one of my first pupils at the Irish Institute in Mexico City when he joined second grade elementary school in 1966. Ever a true gentleman and compassionate priest who did not forget his former Legionary brothers. He fought the good fight in difficult times. I will miss him. Condolences to his family and to the Legionaries.

Suzanne (Chicago Section)
It is storming here in Chicago as I write this. Father Alvaro, you have fought through and weathered many storms in the last years of your life. I am confident that your sufferings will bring many blessings for the Legionaries, Regnum Christi and the Church. Thank you for your perseverance and your kind and gentle spirit. May you rest in peace.

Nathan Hart
As a young apostolic, I met you during your visit to Sacred Heart and our visit to Rome. You said something both times that personified your life and death. You said, “God will give you all the strength you need to do his will.” You fulfilled his will while in this valley of tears. I pray the blessed Virgin has turned her eyes upon you and that you are gazing forever on the Lord’s face. You are forever a priest in the line of Melchizedek. Please pray for my vocation P. Alavaro. Vale, pater.

Debra Gramlich
I will miss Fr. Alvaro! I never met him personally, but his letters and his example of joy and hope amidst incredible pressures and suffering were such an inspiration to me these last few years. I especially love his letter regarding “Charity in Speech” which has helped me a lot. I will continue to pray for Father and his family and ask him to pray for us.

Rose Brandenburg
I’ve never met anyone that emanated love like I experienced being in Fr. Alvaro’s presence. He was a beautiful man of God, may he rest in peace!
