Legionaries of Christ give course on the apostolic exhortation “Evangelii Gaudium” to the Missionaries of Charity in San Francisco

With the Missionaries of Charity

Fr. Brian Shininger LC and Fr. Joshua West LC led a course for the Missionaries of Charity in San Francisco, California this past May. The course was part of the sister’s annual week of studies, which had as its theme the apostolic exhortation by Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium.

The course took place from May 5-9, 2014, in the Missionaries of Charity novitiate, and consisted of three talks per day on different parts of the Pope’s document. Fr. Brian and Fr. Joshua also celebrated Mass for the sisters every day and were available for confessions.

In some of their talks about the “charismas” in the Church, the priests used the diagram and ideas from book The Quest for the Core: of the Regnum Christi Charism written by Fr. Patrick Langan LC and Fr. Owen Kearns LC, which the sisters reportedly found very insightful, applying the main idea to their own charism.

The course was also a fruitful experience to the priests. “It was a renewal for us to give the talks and celebrate Mass to the sisters and novices,” said Fr. Brian.

This is not the first time that the Legionaries have worked together with the Missionaries of Charity.  On another occasion, they helped to distribute food for the poor in the San Francisco area with the help of boys from the local Conquest club, ministering to the homeless and sick.
