Hernando “Nando” Holdsworth, a freshman at Pinecrest Academy in Cumming, Georgia, was awarded the title of “Toughest Recruit” at a Marines training camp in South Carolina from July 15-19, 2014.

Hernando is a member of the Metro Atlanta Young Marines, named in honor of General Raymond G. Davis, a medaled hero of the Korean War.  This summer at the Marine Corps training facility at Parris Island, South Carolina, he competed against other Young Marine members from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

He was recognized for his “effort”, achieving the highest performance in three obstacle course challenges (the Marines call the course the “Crucible”), and for having the best “attitude” in the face of the many hours of marching and physical training demanded during the week.

He hopes to enroll in the ROTC program in college and become an officer
