A reminder to Regnum Christi members of our call to prayer and spiritual renewal, using the resources at our fingertips

By Kelly Luttinen

One might say the Regnum Christi movement is in a time of expectation. The Church year is coming to a close this weekend with the great feast of Christ the King.  We look forward to the season of preparation that is Advent.  And we are anticipating the upcoming General Chapter for the Legion of Christ and General Assembly for the Regnum Christi consecrated.

We all know the demands of our lives, especially during the cultural craziness of Thanksgiving and the month of December.  How can we best prepare for the busy-ness of the season approaching, as well as the New Year?

First of all, we can and should all find a few minutes to pray this week.  Simply reread the letter from the leaders of our movement on both our LC and RC websites titled “Consecration to Christ the King: As the Regnum Christi General Assembly begins and Legion of Christ General Chapter approaches, movement members are called to prayer.”  At the bottom of the page you will find links to three prayers you should be saying daily – Prayer for the Assemblies of the Chapter, a Novena to Christ the King, and a Consecration to Christ the King.

Secondly, after this week, consider making a monthly commitment for spiritual renewal.  Easier said than done, you say?  Well, many diligent people in our movement have already done the hard work for you.  Renewal is just a click away.

Go to the RCSpirituality.org website and choose a retreat guide for each of the next upcoming months.  (If you have not already participated in one of these easy, online retreats, you will find a plethora of spiritual subject matter to begin your new church year.)  The first is a retreat for Advent.  I suggest you start there.

Also, another good choice is the newest retreat that has just been added to the site called “Sitting in the Side Pew: A Retreat Guide on St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.”  Using this woman as a “shining example,” this retreat guide provides advice on how to achieve the spiritual maturity necessary to become a Saint.

The entire list of retreat guides follows:

  • You Matter – A Retreat Guide for Advent
  • Troubled Hearts – A Retreat Guide on Peace of Soul
  • The Colors of the Cross – A Retreat Guide for Lent
  • Welcoming the Word – A Retreat Guide on the Annunciation
  • Fire and Thorns – A Retreat Guide on the Sacred Heart of Jesus
  • The One Thing Needed – A Retreat Guide on Martha and Mary
  • The Complete Christian – A Retreat Guide on the Calling of the Twelve Apostles
  • River of Wisdom – A Retreat Guide on the Rosary
  • Sitting in the Side Pew – A Retreat Guide on St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

No excuses now.  There is no time like the present.  With the aid of the Holy Spirit, it is the “acceptable time” for prayer and  spiritual renewal.
