(1944-2009), passed away yesterday on July 12, 2009 in Mexico
City, in the Year for Priests.

Originally
from Ireland, he was born in Enniscorthy in County Wexford
on December 17, 1944. He entered the novitiate of the
Legion of Christ in Dublin at the age of 21
in 1963. After studying classical humanities in Salamanca, Spain and
philosophy and theology in Rome from, he was ordained to
the diaconate in September 1970 at the Legion’s Center for
Higher Studies. His ordination to the priesthood was a few
months later on November 1 at the basilica of Our
Lady of Guadalupe in Rome.
Fr John Joseph Coady, LC, spent
almost 39 years of his priesthood serving the faithful in
the Cancún-Chetumal prelature at Sacred Heart parish, Holy Cross parish,

and the parish of Perpetual Help.
His funeral is being
held today, July 13, at 8:00 p.m. in the Cathedral
of the Holy Trinity in Cancún, followed by an all-night
vigil.
During this Year for Priests, we invite our
readers to pray for the repose of his soul. After
a life of service, may he rest in peace.
