Calgary,
Alberta, Canada -- More than 150 people renewed their marriage
vows at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Calgary
on February 11, 2012.
The Marriage Renewal event was presided over by
Bishop Frederick Henry of the Diocese of Calgary, along with
visiting priest Fr. Denis Tassé LC, St. Michael´s pastor Fr.
Julian Studden, and associate pastor Fr. Nathan Siray.
Music during Mass was provided by Ron and Christine Lambert
and Brian and Catherine Shamber.
During the homily, Bishop Henry reflected on the
reality of marriage and how much work it takes to
keep a marriage alive. He began with a
discussion of Jesus’ first miracle at the wedding at Cana,
and went on to say that one of the main
components of a successful marriage is forgiveness. He
said there is no other path to wholeness than forgiveness
and the celebration of Mass.
Bishop Henry said the forgiveness found in the
Eucharist will help couples overcome the difficulties they can experience
in marriages. He told the husbands and wives
to attend Mass as much as possible, especially when faced
with the need to forgive.
“He is the mediator that restores all
things that are lost,” said Bishop Henry. “When
we hold fast to Christ, we can begin to see
miracles in marriages.”
