Below is
my second installment on suggestions of what to “pick up”
in your spiritual shopping cart during this second week of
Lent. (How is it going so far?)
SECOND WEEK OF LENT
1. Silence your
memory. Often we can forget, but we cannot forgive. I
suggest this Lent you try to let go of the
past. It is gone, and there’s nothing you
can do about that. We cannot control our
future either… in fact, all we have is the very
second we are in. So why lose time
remembering what is past? Consider picking up and
adding to your shopping cart a phone call or a
visit to “that person” to simply say hello or to
ask forgiveness. You might even get an apology
in return…
2. Silence your voice. Leave the “Gossip Girls”
on television. We can write a new script
for our own life. We can pick up
and add to our cart the habit of speaking and
thinking well of others.
3. Silence your heart. Sentiments, emotions, desires, affections,
relationships… they can quickly drain our hearts. That
is why our nicknames sometimes become “Grumpy" or "Grouchy.” Why not pick up and add to your cart
a pencil to write down all these emotions, sentiments and
desires…and bring them to the ONE person that can actually
do something about them: Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament
--the Eucharist.
