By the coming of the New Year, 2013, more than 45 Regnum Christi Mission Youth missionaries will have spent over a week of their holiday season serving the people of Haiti. 

Beginning December 15, 2012, through the month of January, 2013, these missionaries will bring material and spiritual comfort to the poor and destitute in Port-au-Prince.

Since the earthquake that shook the capital city of Haiti more than two years ago, Mission Youth has sent more than 24 missionary groups there, and the apostolate has sent 11 groups this year alone.  Besides bringing medical supplies and clothing for the orphan children, the missionaries bring hearts filled with love, ready to serve. 

While in Port-au-Prince, the missionaries cooperate with the institutions run by the Missionaries of Charity religious sisters. Their work includes helping at their orphanage, feeding, clothing and bringing comfort to infants and toddlers, as well as assisting the sisters with many small projects.  

Members of Mission Youth also help the missionaries distribute food to more than 5,000 families three times a week. 

The missionaries also work at the St. Joseph medical clinic twice a week. They pass out medicine, clean the wounds of the injured, and minister to ill adults and children who come to the facility.  The clinic

serves up to 500 people in a single day.  

Finally, the missionaries serve at the St. Phil Home for the Dying.  There they will attend to the material and spiritual needs of about 200 terminally ill patients.  Legionary priests bring the sacraments, while the missionaries bring their love and joy to the people there. 

Regnum Christi consecrated women Paola Treviño and Rebecca Olek, and Fr Michael Mitchell, LC, oversee the mission trips, providing for the spiritual needs of the missionaries. 

“The Scriptures remind us, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring the good news! (Isaiah 52:7),” said Fr. Michael.  “Having a missionary heart is characteristic of the charism of Regnum Christi.”

“We ask our members to wish all these missionaries well and pray for their safety,” he said. 

“And please keep praying so we can serve as Christ instruments for all those young people that will cross our paths,” said Paola.
