Matthew 9:27-31
As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him,
crying out, "Son of David, have pity on us!" When
he entered the house, the blind men approached him and
Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I can
do this?" "Yes, Lord," they said. Then he touched their
eyes and said, "Let it be done to you according
to your faith." And their eyes were opened. Jesus warned
them sternly, "See that no one knows about this." But
they went out and spread word of him throughout all
that land.
Introductory Prayer:Lord please help me to live in the
truth, and to admit my blindness and infirmities. Only then
can I come to you and ask for your healing
love.
Petition:Lord grant me substantial humility and contrition of heart.
1. The
Moment of Truth. Place yourself in the scene. These two
men had suffered in blindness for much, if not all,
of their lives. They hear that Jesus of Nazareth is
approaching. Could it be true they wonder? The same one
who has performed miracles for so many people? Maybe …
maybe he could do that for me? What are my
difficulties, faults, failures? He did not come for those who
are well but for those who are sick. Trust in
him.
2. The Lord Hears the Cry of the Poor. “Son
of David, have pity on us.” You can imagine Our
Lord looking at them as he did to so many
of those who came to him: “He looked at
him and loved him.” He could not refuse the humble
cry of the poor and lame. Will he have pity
on them? Oh course! This heart of his, which was
taught compassion by his Holy Mother, looks upon the humble
with so much pity, love and mercy.
3. Do You
Believe? “Let it be done according to your faith.” Does
he really mean that? My faith at times seems so
weak. Yet, a humble admission of guilt and begging for
mercy and healing love is an act of faith in
itself. Don’t set limits on God. Trust in him. Go
to him in the Eucharist. Go to him in confession.
Cry out with faith, humility and sorrow, “Have pity on
me, Lord.”
Dialogue with Christ: Oh Lord Jesus, I love you
with all of my heart and soul. Please heal
my soul of spiritual blindness, caused by pride, vanity and
sensuality. Lord, I do believe that you can do this.
I need you. I trust in you. Help me to
admit my faults and come to you often in the
sacrament of confession for healing and forgiveness. Please heal my
soul and the souls of my loved ones when we
receive you in the sacrament of the Eucharist.
Resolution: I will
do an examination of conscience this evening to determine how
I lived my day, asking Our Lord for forgiveness and
the grace to be more faithful tomorrow.
