Archbishop Collins receives spiritual bouquet from Compass.

Toronto, May 8, 2007. Archbishop Thomas Collins, who was installed as Archbishop of Toronto, Ontario, at the beginning of this year, recently visited with Compass members and participated in the Gospel reflection. Archbishop Collins arrived on the campus of the University of Toronto and was given a tour of the Newman Center by a Compass participant. The tour concluded at the Compass room where 45 students waited to greet him.

The chairs in the room were arranged in a circle around him to allow everyone with a good view. His Grace took part in the points encounter and Gospel Reflection, both standard parts of a Compass meeting. The reflection came to an end with the archbishop sharing his own thoughts and insights. In closing, he graciously offered to do a monthly Lectio Divina for Compass.

The reflection was followed by a question and answer session. There was a list of 21 questions compiled from all the Compass members that covered a broad range of topics: vocations, spiritual life, theology, church and university life, and questions pertaining to the archbishop and his life. 

He encouraged the members to live life with heads (doctrine), hearts (passions) and hands (service). He called on all to be people who make a

difference in the life of the Church, especially in the diocese. The archbishop was presented with a spiritual bouquet of rosaries for vocations in appreciation for his visit.

“The Toronto chapter is a great representation of what every chapter should be -- a wellspring of youthful zeal for Christ, a beacon of light to their local ordinary and fertile ground for future vocations. I thank God for the example that they set,” said Tom McCabe, National Director of Compass.
