During Holy Week, these young people have accepted Christ´s invitation
to preach the Gospel giving themselves to the marvelous work
of bringing the message of Love, visiting the faithful in
their homes, inviting them to the celebration of the Eucharist,
to pray the rosary, the Way of the Cross and
to particiapte in the sacrament of Confession.
In many of the
areas they came into contact with persons who spoke Mayan
instead of Spanish and therefore they enriched their vocabularies with
new phrases such as "bichacaaba?" "coch Iglesia", "Dios botic", which
mean, what´s your name?, let´s go to Church, and thank
you respectively.
"We are only a few. We need generous
hearts and young spirits who are willing to be Jesus´
hands, feet, eyes, and ears" Ana Perez Pliego, the local
director of Youth for the Third Millennium in Cancun, told
us.
Our goal for next year is to visit ten additional
communities. "Christ, without really needing us, asks us, through his
Vicar on earth, that we be the hope that renews
the faith of America, and that we give ourselves for
Christ so that the mission of evangelization reaches every area
of society from the Mayan sector, to our schools, universities,
workplaces, recreational facilities, and above all our families," Ana Perez
pointed out.
