Denver, Colorado, Oct. 17, 2010 – A team of Regnum
Christi women helped promote vocations last week in the Archdiocese
of Denver.
The Office of Vocations for the archdiocese sponsored its
inaugural “Run 4 Vocations” on October 17, 2010. The marathon
relay event involved teams of four running in the 26.2
mile Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Marathon. Though the RC women
finished 100th in the women’s division, winning the race was
not the goal.
Runners were asked to get prayer pledges for
their participation. The “RC Runners” team, including consecrated women Tammy
Grady and Yvonne Fontaine and RC members Karen Wilhoite and
Mary Sarah Ivers, obtained pledges of 46 Masses offered by
a priest, 178 Eucharistic holy hours, 347 Rosaries, 91 Divine
Mercy chaplets, 7 novenas, 226 personal Mass intentions, 35 days
of fasting, 374 general prayers, and 101 people praying.
In total,
the Denver Archdiocese had 810 people pledge prayers, 565 Eucharistic
holy hours, 1619 rosaries, 496 Divine Mercy chaplets, 47 novenas,
852 personal Mass intentions, 371 days of fasting, and 504
general prayers. Also, 232 Masses were offered by a priest.
The
Office of Priestly Vocations is already seeing “answers to these
prayers,” according to an article in the Denver Catholic Register.
“I currently have eight guys in application for seminary a
year from now,” Father Jim Crisman said. “I’ve never seen
that. The most I’ve ever seen, by Christmas, is two
guys in application, and that was last year.”
