Holy Week evangelization missions, which generally see tens of thousands
of lay people directed by the Legionaries of Christ and
Regnum Christi members, reached 50,000 this year. University students, entire
families, and around 35,000 missionaries recruited by the Full-Time Catechists
and the School of the Faith, sacrificed their Holy Week
vacation so they could bring the Gospel to their brothers
and sisters most in need.
113 Legionary of Christ priests accompanied
them throughout every corner of Mexico to alleviate the suffering
of the indigenous and share the wealth of Christ´s message.
It is estimated that more than one million people received
a home visit from the missionaries. 21 States of the
Mexican Republic (Aguascalientes, Northern Baja California, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Durango,
Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla,
Querétaro, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tabasco, Veracruz, Yucatán and Zacatecas), benefitted from
this monumentous effort of Christian charity and humanitarian particiaption.
The activities
directed by the Pastors of the local parishes touched the
lives of 3,141 different communities in an effort to fulfill
the desire of our Holy Father John Paul II so
that all Christians will generously take part in the work
of the New Evangelization.
This year the apostolates Youth for
the Third Millennium and Missionary Families for the Third Millennium
directed evangelization missions in the United States, El Salvador, Venezuela,
Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Spain, Italy and Lebanon. The organization of
missions in these countries has just begun but the response
was still very encouraging: 15,000 lay people in all.
There has
been a marvelous interest in the Helping Hands Medical Missions
as well evangelization missions to prisons and correctional institutes.
