Jordanésia, a town about forty minutes from São Paulo, hosted
a mission from October 11th to the 13th. The missionaries
were members of Youth for the Third Millennium. The mission
was in commemoration of our Lady of Concepción de Aparecida,
the patroness of Brazil. Holy Cross parish very generously put
the young people up for the weekend.
The Forty-five missionaries
hailed from the cities of São Paulo, Campinas, Itu and
Jundiaí. The young people hit the streets to evangelize on
the morning of Saturday the 12th, after the sending Mass
celebrated by the pastor of Holy Cross parish.
Throughout the
weekend the missionaries visited 320 families, 70% of whom were
Catholic. The mission concluded with a Mass celebrated at Holy
Cross parish, where the pastor thanked the missionaries for their
generosity and faith. The young people offered him a painting
of our Lady of Guadalupe in thanksgiving.
That evening Father
Peter Shekelton, LC, celebrated Mass for the people of Jordanésia
who received the missionaries with such open arms.
