Baltimore, MD, May 10, 2006 – More than thirty high school students from suburban Baltimore showed that leadership means service by hosting 220 inner city guests for their fourth “Angel for a Day” program in suburban Baltimore’s Oregon Ridge Park. The organizers participate in the Leadership Training Program in which high school-age mentors model for younger students what it means to be a leader in their schools, churches, neighborhoods and the wider community.

The high schoolers organized the event, solicited donations and manned the stations at a carnival-like setup, allowing their young guests from Baltimore’s inner city to participate in a wide variety of games. The LTP organizers also helped their guests complete a variety of arts and crafts projects and served them lunch.

The LTP students also made clear what motivates them: their love for Christ. They performed a skit on the Resurrection and gave each of their young guests an Easter egg with a rosary inside.

“I received expressions of warm gratitude and handshakes from most of the participants,” said Fr. Michael Sliney, LC, chaplain for the Leadership Training Program. “This is just another example of what our LTP board of advisors and our young people can do for Christ and others,” added Fr. Sliney, who developed the LTP concept that has spread to cities around the country.
