Marietta, GA, October 24, 2009 – The Pinecrest Academy Girls Volleyball team took home the state title on Saturday, October 23-24, 2009.

Principal Rick Swygman said the match was an “extremely tense and hard fought” competition.   “They really are an incredible group of girls with an incredible coaching staff,” he said.

“They worked extremely hard all season, with very disciplined and intense practices, never letting up their drive for a state title, and never losing sight of their mission, their purpose and how to get there,” said Coach Amy Camacho.

Pre-game preparations included team members writing a short message that she could look at throughout the match that would help her play her best.  The mental reminders included words like “joy,” “hope,” “trust,” and “for Christ.”

“How could we have gone wrong?” said Coach Comacho.

Claiming the region title with a perfect record of 12-0, the Lady Paladins qualified for the Sweet Sixteen.  In the first round of play on Friday morning, the team swept Frederica Academy, 25-6, 25-5 and 25-11.   Advancing to the Elite Eight, they defeated Harvester Christian on Friday evening, 25-16, 25-21 and 26-24.

For the Final Four match on Saturday morning, the Lady Paladins beat Augusta Prep School 25-21, 27-25, 25-27 and 25-21.  The final championship game was against Calvary Christian on Saturday evening, and according to Camacho, “embodied the thrill of the sport.” She said “both sides ferociously pounded the ball” at their opponents, but the Lady Paladins prevailed 20-25, 25-18, 28-26 and 25-22.

The Lady Paladins finish their season with a match record of 29-1 and a set record of 81-4.  Lady Paladins Bridget Camacho, Alex Caliban, Haley Ojeda, Margaret Cassandra, Kate Stecki, and Nicole Camacho were named GISA 2009 All-Region Players.  GISA 2009 All-State Players are Bridget Camacho, Alex Caliban, Haley Ojeda and Nicole Camacho.
