Eunice and Folsom, Louisiana, June 2010 - Challenge clubs in
Louisiana put their own spin on the show “America’s Next
Top Model” with their own version of the popular television
show “America’s Next Top Role Model.”
About forty girls participated in
the camps held over two weeks in June this summer
at the ABC Retreat Facility near Eunice, Louisiana and Bocamb
Farms in Folsom, Louisiana.
Building on the idea of the
television show, the campers received a specific task that they
had to accomplish each day. Camp counselors impersonated judges and
the show’s host. The camp culminated in a Challenge Fashion

Show the last night. The girls prepared two models from
each team, inventing a formal and a casual outfit using
only a few basic materials: newspaper, an old pink t-shirt,
garbage bags, and cardboard.
“Some of the outfits were phenomenal!”
said consecrated woman Amanda Eckert. “I could hardly believe that
they could make such attractive outfits out of ‘nothing.’”
“But our
true purpose was to help the girls know the importance
of being role models and giving testimony with their lives
in our world today. We hope that they took home
the message that their strength of character and inner beauty
is much more important than being a ‘Top Model.’”
Besides the
“Role Model” activities, the campers took a day trip to
Blue Bayou Amusement and Water Park in Baton Rouge. The
girls also participated in a special Eucharistic Procession during the
second camp week. Prior to camp dates, Challenge sponsored their
annual T-Shirt Design Contest, and the winning design inspired the
camp T-shirt given to each of the girls attending.
