In 2009, Br. Peter Huynh, LC teamed up with fourteen of his theology classmates in Thornwood, NY and a group of primary school students to create a book that would help children and adults alike to pray the Stations of the Cross during Lent. The seminarians wrote simple reflections, and the children provided drawings to accompany them. The result was a beautiful and heartfelt work of art and prayer.

“There are plenty of materials to help adults to pray and meditate during Lent, but what about our little ones?” Br. Peter asked. “Are they too young to pray, and participate in Christ’s passion? I don’t think so and that’s why I am doing this for them.”
 
Encouraged by the appreciation for the book, Br. Peter, now studying in Rome, is launching a drawing competition for 2nd – 5th grade students in order to compile a new book. A group of seminarians will vote on the drawings, and the winning ones will be published. Br. Peter is hoping to publish a series of Stations of the Cross books this year, so many drawings will be selected! The drawings have a long trip ahead of them to Rome and Ash Wednesday is coming soon, so Br. Peter is encouraging interested teachers and parents to start as soon as possible; artwork will need to arrive soon in order to be considered.

As Br. Peter said in 2009, the children’s artwork shows “profound faith, simplicity, and innocence. Children draw according to what they understand and believe, not according to what others think. They express it as they understand it.” He hopes that many children will participate in this activity, which will help both children and adults in their prayer this Lent!
