January 27, 2011. As the beatification of Pope John Paul
II approaches this upcoming May 1, 2011, his spiritual sons
are standing up and telling their stories. The third-longest papacy
in history, extraordinarily fruitful in more ways than one, begot
a fresh new generation of priests and religious who saw
in John Paul II a model of modern holiness and
an invitation to fearless discipleship.
The unique stories of 12 of
his spiritual sons, both diocesan and religious priests from around
the world, are gathered in a new book by Br
Randall J. Meissen, LC, Living Miracles: The Spiritual Sons of
John Paul the Great.
After a foreword by Archbishop Charles J.
Chaput of the Archdiocese of Denver and reflections from Cardinal
Daniel DiNardo of Houston and Bishop Peter Jugis of Charlotte,
North Carolina, the book profiles Fr. Ed Kelly (Archdiocese of
Philadelphia, PA), Fr. Peter Mitchell (Diocese of Lincoln, NE), Fr.
Gary Dailey (Diocese of Springfield, MA), Fr. David Toups (Associate
Director, Secretariat of Clergy, Consecrated Life, and Vocations at the
U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Washington, D.C), Fr. Leonard Reisz
(Diocese of Owensboro, KY), Fr. Jay Toborowsky (Diocese of Metuchen,
NJ), Fr. Álvaro Corcuera (General Director of the Legion of
Christ, Rome, Italy), Fr. Stephen Savel (Diocese of London, Ontario,
Canada), Fr. Richard Mullins (Director of Multicultural Ministries, Diocese of
Arlington, VA), Fr. Mark White (Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.), Fr.
John Higgins (Archdiocese of New York, NY), and Fr. Anthony
Denton (Archdiocese of Melbourne, Australia).
From “second conversions” of already ordained
priests to the first inspiration after a moment of eye
contact with John Paul II in the midst of a
crowd, each story bears unique witness to how the Holy
Spirit worked through a man who gave himself completely over
to God.
The book can be pre-ordered now on Amazon and
all proceeds will go to support the priests and religious
of the Legion of Christ.
